Dear Editor,
I would like to congratulate Parliamentarian and Chairman of the Alliance for Change (AFC) Mr. Khemraj Ramjattan on his recent move to press charges against three senior Government officials for alleged malpractices and breach of the Fiscal Management and Accountability Act.
This is indeed an excellent move by Mr. Ramjattan as he and his party continues its vigilant and steadfast watch over the Guyana Government and highlights the many areas in which it openly flouts the law.
Public officials need to know that while they are in public office, they are accountable to the people who placed them there. And therefore any form of malpractice or illegality regarding the spending of public funds must be met with severe disciplinary measures to ensure that others do not follow the misguided footsteps of their predecessors or colleagues. I believe that is one of the reasons the Fiscal Management and Accountability Act was enshrined into law.
Let us all hope the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) acts in accordance with its mandate of neutrality and this matter is dealt with accordingly.
Too long have our politicians been allowed to parade the corridors of power with impunity. No one is above the law! Richard Francois
