Is this a case of solidarity trumping fair play?
Dear Editor,
David De Groot’s letter published on December 22 and entitled “Rashleigh Jackson and Kissoon’s insufficient knowledge of history” presents a melange of issues and ideas.
I believe that David has the laudable desire to set the record straight, including his own accomplishments. In attempting to do so however David committed a transgression which is worrying to me.
While he exercised his right to be intrigued by what I said, he denied me the right to be intrigued by what Dr. Misir said. Is this a case of solidarity trumping fair play?
Concerning the issue of a constitutional amendment I certainly recognise David’s privileged position in being a beneficiary of the post-1964 elections arrangements as “a member of that first parliament…” as he asserted.
I would nevertheless recommend that he consults relevant documents including the Chronicle as well as the Mirror, with which I believe he is associated. David might also wish to jog his memory by reading Peeping Tom’s column of December 21.
