The festive celebrations were marred by two separate shooting incidents which occurred on Christmas Eve and on Christmas Day.
Quacy John was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital shortly after midday yesterday. He was shot in the leg and hands.
Doctors were able to stabilise his condition and he was taken to the High Dependency Unit of the hospital. However, when this newspaper visited the hospital yesterday the man could not be found.
Some speculated that John was taken to a private institution by relatives, but that was unconfirmed.
Kaieteur News managed to contact the man’s relatives who said that the family was dealing with the matter and that they did not want any publicity. The relative further said that John was healthy and is recovering well.
This newspaper was reliably informed that John was shot after he behaved disorderly in front of the Prashad Nagar Police Station.
It was reported that John and his wife had a domestic dispute which resulted in the wife making a report at the police station.
The husband was asked to report to the station and when he arrived at the station he verbally assaulted the ranks.
One rank ventured into the yard with the intention of arresting the man who tried to escape.
The rank fired a few shots behind the man, and he was wounded. He was taken to the hospital.
Police sources said that charges are expected to be laid against the man.
And Lawrence Brummell (no address given) was shot on Christmas Eve Day by armed bandits. According to reports, Brummell was at a nearby shop in North Sophia when he was robbed by bandits. He was rushed to the hospital from which he was discharged yesterday.
