Leading bakery Bakewell has for the second year made it possible for thousands of students to witness Guyana’s Premier knock-out football tournament, the Kashif and Shanghai.
Yesterday, Bakewell’s CEO Mr. Naeem Nasir handed over to the Ministry of Education a total of Two Thousand Five Hundred (2500) tickets to be distributed among Primary and secondary schools according to the Ministry of Education Principal Education Officer, Mr. Marcel Hutson. Each ticket is valued at $700.
At the handing over ceremony, Mr. Nasir said his company has seen it fit to make this presentation again in its continued commitment towards the development of sport. Nasir said this contribution is also to assist in the ability of the students to get involved in sports. “Because the developed mind comes from a developed body and when they get developed in sports it helps them to excel in their academic studies.”
Hutson, on behalf of the Ministry of Education and the Department of Education, expressed gratitude to Bakewell for their timely gesture highlighting that the Ministry believes in the promotion of sports.
Hutson said the Ministry recognizes the fact that students today must have a balance, combining sports and education. “I believe that this contribution will send a clear message to our students that we believe in sports and we want to give them an opportunity to participate in sporting activities in whatever way they can.”
Hutson also commented on the distribution of the tickets; “We would want to target the primary and particularly the secondary schools, the older children. I think they would be more receptive to these tickets and to be a part of the football competition that is ahead.”
The tickets will be valid for the semi-finals of the Kashif and Shanghai competition, December 28 at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
Meanwhile, Aubrey ‘Shanghai’ Major disclosed that a total of fifteen hundred (1500) will be distributed to schools in Linden to facilitate their attendance at the double header on Saturday December 19th.
