Dear Editor,
I went to my Church last Wednesday at 7pm, my service lasted for at least one hour. I came back home about 8:15pm.
When I opened my upstairs front door, I discovered that my back door had been broken into by thieves and my home was ransacked.
I summoned my friends and neighbours who came over instantly to help me deal with my losses.
My wife drove to the BV police station – that’s just five minutes drive from where I live in Agriculture Road. She came back one hour later but no police rank came with her.
She told me and our neighbours that the police took her report and said they don’t have a vehicle to come, though she offered to bring them with our vehicle. She further said that they would come in the morning.
No police called or came in the morning, my wife went to the station again about 9am, and came back until 11am with one plain clothes policeman who happened to be a fingerprint expert.
He spent about 15 minutes to see if he could get some fingerprints but could not have gotten any, because the salt air would have already evaporated the prints; since he took too long to come.
He asked me if I knew of any suspects but I could not come up with a clue as to who could have committed such an act at that moment.
What worried me most is the poor response by the police. Why is it they did not come immediately with my wife with their camera to take pictures of the scene?
Why is it they could not have come with dogs to try to track down the thieves immediately? Why is it the following day only a fingerprint expert came and no other police rank came to carry out a proper investigation?
I am very much concerned about the security of the police force in our country.
It seems as if the police are afraid of the thieves and bandits that is why they are unable to respond promptly.
If they would have responded promptly, with the help from neighbours, those thieves could not have gotten away very far, but because of their incompetence I suffered great losses.
Until today, they did not call to inquire if we have identified a suspect. When I called the station no one even answered my call.
What the police and soldiers need is firm discipline; they must understand their role and function is to protect every citizen of this nation.
May God help our Administrators to guide and direct the police as well as the GDF.
