Dear Editor,
When will it all end? Are we going towards a crucifixion and positive hope of resurrection?
This article is based on an evaluation of the following issues:-
1. Failure to rebuild the Sacred Heart Church on Main Street, when interest and enthusiasm was at its peak and a deliberate attempt to phase out the progress of the discussion.
2. Contravention and a complete disregard for Canon Law – the Law of the church. The occupation of the Queenstown property by the Jesuits is an abrogation of Canon Law 1267, paragraph 3, and I can vouch for this as I was present with Martin Fredericks at the handing over of the keys of the Queenstown property to Bishop Guilly. He explicitly mentioned that the facilities were to be used for the purpose that he specified. If that purpose was to house the Jesuits, the keys would have been given to the Jesuit’s Superior. In any case the records will be explicit on this issue.
3. Restructuring – what a sinister figment of the imagination as it is proving itself to be.
4. Alleged injustice to fathers Rose and Wall. All and sundry without exception recognise the immense contribution of these two priests to the Church in Guyana. If they were disrespectfully treated at the end this would be a grave injustice.
5. Shortages of priests in Guyana, while a surplus exists in other countries.
6. Certain echelons of the Catholic hierarchy that maintain, an Omerta like silence on certain obviously blatant wrong doings and misdeeds is sinful, unchristian, and diametrically opposed to the welfare of the Church.
Both doing and not doing can be sinful.
Remember that it was the Laity that defended Christ’s Divinity and refuted the Aryan Heresy that denied Christ’s Divinity. This Heresy was supported by 365 Bishops.
I exhort those of the Laity that are concerned with the welfare of the Church to pray continuously for her. It was the Laity that defended Christ’s Divinity in the past.
John Fredericks M.D.
