The United Nations (UN) will be 64 this year, and as such a flag raising ceremony is planned for tomorrow.
The hoisting of the UN Flag will take place at the Promenade Gardens, Georgetown, from 8:30 hours. Speeches will be delivered by the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations Development Programme
An exhibition at the National Library is also planned as part of the event for October 24th. The National Library Exhibition is planned to showcase posters, handouts and new publications of the activities that the various UN agencies have recently completed and those activities that are currently ongoing.
The exhibition is scheduled to begin at 9:00 hrs, and will continue until 15:00 hrs. UN Day has traditionally been marked throughout the world with meetings, discussions and exhibitions on the achievements and goals of the Organisation.
The United Nations was formally established after a majority of its founding members ratified a treaty setting up the world body, on October 24, 1945.
