Two more lawyers were yesterday admitted to the local Bar. The new attorneys at law, Latoya Hobbs and Latchmie Rahamat, had their petitions presented by Attorney at Law Nigel Hughes before Justice William Ramlal.
Hobbs, a past pupil of St Margaret’s Primary wrote the Secondary Schools’ Entrance Examination and was awarded a place at St John’s Secondary School.
She continued as a student of Bishops High where she did her A levels.
Hobbs moved on to the University of Guyana to pursue a degree in law, she completed that course in 2007.
She completed her studies at the Hugh Wooding Law School where she gained her Legal Education Certificate September last. Hobbs is currently attached at the Hughes, Fields and Stoby law firm.
The other attorney at law, Latchmie Rahamat, was a former student of the Rama Krishna Primary.
Rahamat, after writing the Secondary Schools Entrance Examination, was successfully placed at Queen’s College.
She moved on to the University of Guyana where she graduated with a degree in law
and completed her legal studies at the Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad. She is attached to the Chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Justice Ramlal, who heard both petitions, told the new lawyers that their main concern should not be “getting clients” but making sure that he or she gets a fair trial.
On Friday last, three lawyers were admitted to the local bar, these included Best Graduating Guyanese law student Judith Gildharie-Mursalin, Kenita-Ann Cumberbatch and Alisha George.
