Brazen trunker pleads guilty
Says “the van was open and I go in”
Richard Narine appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson to answer the charge of simple larceny and pleaded guilty.
It is alleged that yesterday, Richard Narine on Robb Street, stole a DVD player and a cell phone from Ran Persaud’s vehicle.
Narine, who seemed nervous at best, pleaded guilty to the offence.
According to the prosecution, at 8:15hrs the defendant, an out of work construction worker, was seen by a passing mobile patrol going into the parked vehicle, GLL 1004, owned by Ran Persaud, and removed the said articles, a claim he did not refute by pleading guilty.
When asked by the Chief Magistrate (ag) why it was that he stole the articles, Narine seemed to be at a loss. Instead of giving a clear answer, he resorted to staring at the courtroom floor and mumbling incoherently.
He eventually told the court, “The van was open and I go and take it out.”
Richard Narine was told that he would either have to pay a $25,000 fine or spend six months in prison as punishment for breaking the law.
