Woolley House to repeat
CLEAR WINNER!!! Woolley House’s, Carwyn Collins clearly wins the Open Male 400m race at the Queens College ground during the school’s annual Inter-House track and field competition.
Woolley House successfully defended its Queens College Inter-House track and field title Thursday at the school’s ground when the annual competition was opened with remarks from the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.
Woolley House amassed 348 points in the last point standing before the relay events were completed Thursday. Nobbs House was on 317 points with Austin on 276 points to round off the leading Houses before press time.
Minister of Culture Youth and Sport, Dr Frank Anthony, who is a former Queens College student, had urged students to compete in the spirit of sportsmanship while underscoring the importance of merging sports and academics.
Raleigh House and Pilgrim sealed the top five with 272 and 237 points respectively while Moulder amassed 219 for sixth, Cunningham 197 for seventh, Percival and Durban 177 for eight and ninth respectively and Weston 148.
Woolley House also won the Standard Trial Shield for the fifth consecutive last week and was on course to winning the overall title up to press time yesterday when Kaieteur Sport visited the school’s ground during the afternoon.
Nobbs House’s, Sarah Martin won the Under-16 girls 100m, 200m and 400m events. The athlete defeated Raynelle Lord and Shebiki Beaton in the 100m; Beaton and Darien Dey in the 200m and Beaton and Reyanna Thomas in the 400m.
Raleigh House’s Devon Seeram claimed the male 100m Under-16 race ahead of Troxeley Cutting and Joshua Griffith. He returned to also win the 200m race ahead of with those in hind sight being Cutting and Griffith respectively.
Percival House had its chance of glory when Kareen Critchlow won the male Open 100m ahead of Droxley Noble and Neil Barry Jr. in that order. Carwyn Collins, who also won a 400m Open race, defeated Critchlow in the 200m.
Jonathan Wrights was third in the race while Kim Chan doubled in the female 100m and 200m with Robyn Thomas second on both occasions.
Keadhya Murray was third in the 100m with Shannon Bastiani third in the 200m. (Edison Jefford)
