Managing Director of Neal & Massy Group of Companies Deo Persaud presented to President of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Chetram Singh a cheque worth $2million towards the sponsorship of the 40 overs First Division Nationwide Cricket Competition yesterday in the Boardroom of the GCB Head Office.

According to Persaud, the sponsorship of the tournament is in its fifth year and promised the Company’s continued support should the GCB carry on in the same vein. He said the entity was pleased with the response from the media, adding that the coverage this year was indeed far better than last year.
“From a public relations standpoint, this year seems far better than last year and I must commend the Board and the media,” Persaud mentioned.
Persaud promised that they will continue to play their role in the promotion of cricket as a Group, informing that they are pleased to be part of the sponsorship of cricket in Guyana and the tournament helps to unearth hidden talent.
Singh in his remarks thanked the Company foe its continued support to the sport, indicating the important nature of the tournament which assist them in selecting the national squad to compete in the regional one-day competition which is scheduled to start in October.
Additionally, Singh disclosed that coming out of the regional tournament, the West Indies Cricket Board will name its squad to participate in series scheduled for later this year.
He informed that some 34 teams participated in the competition from all three counties that had attracted the cream of the local first division players.
Singh added that because Young Warriors who are the defending champions hails from Berbice that county was allotted two slots for two teams.
GCB’s Marketing Manager Ramsay Alli in his comments recognised the sentiments expressed by Persaud when he commended the media for a job well done, adding that both the print and electronic components had done a fair job so far and called for continued support.
He too said that the tournament was extremely important in helping to select the national squad to represent Guyana in the regional series.
Among the other members present yesterday were N&M Directors Trevor Yhan and Robert Singh, GCB’S executives Bissoondial Singh and Anand Sanasie. The finals will be played at the National Stadium on October 18.
