Coach Nedd looking forward to working with Captain
West Indies player Ramnaresh Sarwan was predictably appointed Skipper of the Demerara team which will oppose Essequibo from Tuesday at Anna Regina in the opening round of the Guyana Cricket Board 4-day cricket competition.
His deputy is First-Class off-spinner Zaheer Mohamed who has been enjoying an outstanding Demerara first division season with both bat and ball for East Coast side Enterprise.
The 29-year-old Sarwan, who has played 183 First-Class matches including 81 at the Test level, has captained both Guyana and the West Indies and was not involved in the selection of the team.
The 37-year-old Nedd, who took 29 wickets from 14 first-Class matches between 1994 and 1999, has been appointed Coach and informed that the team will have its first practice session today at Everest from 13:00hrs.
Demerara under-19 Manager Mustapha Kadir is the Manager of the side which is expected to travel to Essequibo on Monday and Nedd, who was involved with the Demerara 20/20 team as Coach, says he is looking forward to working with Skipper Sarwan as Demerara aim to win the 4-team competition which also involves the Derwin Christian led Rest Team.
“It feels good to be appointed Coach for the 4-day competition and a player I know what’s required. I have played among all of these guys and I am comfortable working with them,” Nedd said.
He said that he will assess the balance of the team and the form of the players after today’s session and explained that ‘its all about game preparation since at this level all of the guys know what is required of them while most of the guys have already played at First-Class level.
