Ravi Singh, of Atlantic Gardens, East Coast Demerara, was yesterday remanded to prison after pleading not guilty to the charge of possession of an illegal substance for the purpose of trafficking.
A police prosecutor reported that on Sunday last, the defendant who was scheduled to board a flight destined to JFK International Airport from Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri, was observed by ranks of the Police Narcotics Unit acting in a suspicious manner.
The defendant was subsequently intercepted and a search was carried out.
During the search, the ranks found three kilogrammes of cocaine concealed in a plastic bag. Singh was cautioned of the offence, arrested and charged.
Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson denied bail for the accused, who is scheduled to make another appearance on October 23.
