Amelia’s Ward edge Half Mile/1 Mile on penalties

Amelia’s Ward secured a 3-2 victory over Half Mile/1Mile in Tuesday’s action of the Linden leg of the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport Inter-Block football championship.
The sides played to a 0-0 stalemate in regulation time, necessitating penalty kicks to separate them. The key contest had seen former sharpshooter and national player Brian Joseph, who is the president of the Upper Demerara Football Association, donning his boots to give his team, Amelia’s Ward, the advantage.
They came out with the win when Roy Fraser, Monty Simon and goalkeeper Odel Allicock scored during the shoot out. Allicock scored the crucial goal with his team needing that strike for victory. Marlon Maxius and Delroy Dainty netted for the losers.
The game was described as a keen tussle between the two sides.
The tournament continues today at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground with a double header starting for 6:00pm. Blue Berry hill take on Watooka Richmond Hill in the opening game, while Wisroc battle Christianburg in the nightcap at 8:00pm.
