People’s National Congress leader, Robert Corbin, in an invited comment about the newly reopened ‘backtrack’ route to Suriname, stated that he is not surprised at the Government’s condolence of illegality.
Referring to the controversial ‘name calling’ of prominent Government officials during the trial of Robert Simels, Corbin told Kaieteur News that the reopening of this illegal crossing between Springlands and Nickerie is in keeping with all that was heard in the New York Courts.
Corbin said that the Government’s involvement in organised crime and the sheltering of narcotics traffickers is evident, and as such, nothing coming out of the Government surprises him.
Robert Corbin’s comment follows that of Alliance for Change Chairman, Khemraj Ramjatan’s comment on the public declaration of the reopening of the illegal crossing between the two Republics.
Ramjatan stated that ‘No Minister of Government should be heard publicly declaring that he had secured the opening of an illegal crossing that his government officially refuses to recognise as a legal crossing.’
