Dear Editor,
Certain aspects of your editorial entitled “The Congress Place challenge that failed” of Tuesday, August 25, 2009, have been brought to my attention.
In particular, I refer to the words, “Years later, another challenge was mounted by Raphael Trotman, who is now leader of the Alliance For Change. Again the incumbent was Desmond Hoyte. The year was 2001.”
For the sake of transparency, and the record, I wish to make it pellucid that at no time during my years as a member of the PNCR did I challenge either Mr. Desmond Hoyte, or Robert Corbin, the leaders who presided over the affairs of the Party during that period. Mr. Hugh Desmond Hoyte, was responsible for my induction into national politics, and despite our rare differences and disagreements, I never contested for leadership of the Party in his time, or after his demise.
Further, for the greater part of 2001, I was overseas pursuing post-graduate studies. The comment, and the premise on which it is mounted, are therefore clearly, and wholly, false, and need to be corrected.
I would have preferred not to be involved, even tangentially, in the ongoing leadership struggle within Congress Place, but felt constrained to correct a glaring error. Please give this letter equal prominence to that of the editorial. Thank you.
Raphael Trotman
