Sharon Austin will come up for sentencing today. Her sentencing was deferred pending a probation report after she pleaded guilty to unlawfully wounding Natasha Williams on Monday last.
The woman made a court appearance yesterday before Magistrate Priya Beharry, at the Georgetown Magistrates Court.
According to Police Prosecutor, Munilall Seetaram, on the day in question the virtual complainant was in the vicinity of Demico House. He said that Austin saw Williams and grabbed her and began stabbing her. The victim received one stab wound.
The woman was rescued and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital by a police patrol vehicle which was in the vicinity.
Seetaram added that the defendant (Austin) is a known troublemaker.
When given a chance to explain, Austin said that she only acted in self defence since Williams “spit on her”.
“My worship, this girl come to me for some food and I give her, and when she finish she throw de chicken bones on me and spit in meh face”.
Austin pleaded with the magistrate to have mercy on her since she has a three-year-old daughter. The magistrate asked Austin about the reason for her declining to make a report.
Magistrate Beharry granted bail to Austin in the sum of $30,000 pending sentencing.
