Dear Editor,
The first impression one will get from the headline, “Bandits hit Police HQ” should be “you got to be kidding.”
This is one of the most pathetic stories one will ever read about and wants to digest. The Police HQ come on. This is not real.
Let’s say it is, the bandits must be either retarded or idiots. Otherwise than being retarded or being an idiot who will ever want to venture into the compound of the force HQ knowing fully well that this compound is all time well guarded, and from my knowledge will never run out of ammunitions or arms should it be called upon to defend itself.
It begs the question, are the so called bandits police or police friends? For I cannot understand the logics one will ever dare rob the Force HQ and then walk out.
That’s one story, the other is, how can citizens and more so drivers who are constantly stop and harassed by men dressed in police attire are positive that these men are actually members of the force. As a driver I am scared to death that one day I may be stopped by a person professing to be a member of the force and in reality its the total opposite.
Here we have a situation where police uniforms, boots and about 100 police pullovers missing, what guarantee from the police force we as citizen have that we are protected, knowing that these items, as they claim were stolen by bandits.
The Commissioner of Police must tell the nation what steps we ought to take now.
Should we invite the police in our homes, should we stop our vehicles? Or when we are stopped do not get out of our vehicles, but go directly to the station? Let us know as a matter of urgency and priority.
My final point, as I always alluded to is when situations like these and others where injustices are committed the decent thing to do by our public officers in charge is to resign. But as the norm in Guyana this will never happen.
This…”Bandits hit police HQ” situation is an embarrassment to the country and the force.
The Commissioner of Police should resign immediately likewise the Home Affairs Minister. If this situation does not cause much embarrassment to you gentlemen, then I guest nothing will ever.
