Retired Guyana Defence Force Colonel and President of the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF), Godwin McPherson died sometime yesterday after being hospitalised after suffering a Transient Ischæmic Attack (Stroke).
McPherson was a patient at the St Joseph Mercy Hospital where he reportedly died yesterday.
Following his admission to the institution, doctors at the hospital had listed his condition as ‘stable’ but there were still concerns; he had no response in the left side of his body, which medically communicates that the right side of his brain may have been damaged.
A Stroke or Transient Ischæmic Attack (TIA) occurs when a blood vessel feeding the brain becomes clogged or bursts. As a result, that part of the brain and the part of the body controlled by it ceases to function.
McPherson had been an enduring President of the GABF with major successes coming from a relationship with the Washington D.C Jammers. The association has contributed immensely to the development of basketball.
The retired Colonel once served as acting GDF Chief-of-Staff in the absence of Joseph Singh.
