If a man’s value in life is measured by the numbers who attend his funeral then it is safe to say that the late Frederick Augustus Salvador Cox, of the Guyana Responsible Parenthood Association, was a man well loved.
Yesterday, Guyanese from every stratum turned out in their hundreds to celebrate his life at the Church of the Transfiguration, Mandela Avenue. They filled the church and spilled over to the churchyard.
While he fathered four, and was married to Cilline, many said that he was the father they never had while others openly showed that they will miss his ever encouraging words.
The majority saw him as the ever listening ear that offered an avenue for comfort and console.
The tributes came from many organizations such as IPPF&CFPA, the Caribbean Family Planning Affiliation, UNAIDS, Lodge Alpha, the Council of Brotherhood of St Andrews, Men of Purpose, Mothers’ Union in the Diocese of Guyana and the Men’s Guild of the Smith Memorial Church. There were also some tributes in song.
Cox was born to Wilfred and Blanche Cox on April 15, 1944 at Freetown, Pomeroon. He passed away on July 12.
