Guyana may have the opportunity to host the Central American & Caribbean (CAC) Rugby Tournament next July.
This is according to sources close to the Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sport and the Guyana Rugby Football Union, who relayed this information to Kaieteur Sport recently. The source from the Ministry revealed that the green light has been given by the relevant authorities for the use of the National Stadium, after the two parties met earlier in the week for discussions pertaining to the hosting of the tournament.
It was disclosed that Guyana won the bid to host the tournament and at present the local Union is still in negotiations with the governing body for the sport, the IRB.
The executive from the Union said that around eight teams are expected to descend on these shores for the competition and with rugby being ranked among the top three sports with the largest TV viewer-ship, early promotion of the event could be a vital factor.
