Dear Editor,
I want to commend the government on its Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS).
It is the way to go in this time when the whole world is facing an ecological crisis.
I wish therefore to urge this administration to look at the terrible harm that is being done in our interior by mining. Many are legal, but also a lot illegal.
If you go into our rivers, which are famous for its black waters you will find that the miners are changing their colour. Many are now white, while others are becoming so due to mining. People who depend on the river for water to drink and wash now have to look for alternative sources.
At the same time, trees are destroyed indiscriminately.
It is true officials go to visit these areas, but no improvement to this situation occurs. In fact, it’s fast becoming worst. This gives rise to talk that many of the inspectors employed by government are also benefiting from this destruction of our natural environment.
Please Mr. Woolford, Prime Minister Hinds, do something about this wanton rape of our forests. Aubrey Hopkinson
