Dear Editor,
While there is a substantial improvement in Ms. Daly’s writing (Kaieteur News, July 6th), she still remains who she is – a person that attacks the messenger and pretty much skirts the message.
I say improvement because in her penultimate paragraph she manages to come up with a semblance of an economic argument. Unfortunately that argument would have made sense in the early nineties when the economy had first stabilised after the adjustments made in the late eighties.
Our economy has been stable since 1991/92 – whither are we today? Ms. Daly, you have therefore still not addressed Dr. Khemraj point for point. Other than for that fleeting moment, her letter remains much the same as her previous ones, continuing to launch herself at Dr. Khemraj at a personal level (like a rice-eater from behind a gate), and then expecting my credibility to be diminished by stating that I am associated with the AFC. Herein lies one of the major problems painted almost indelibly on Guyana’s political landscape – the constant attempt to stereotype people and destroy them based on associations, without ever dealing with the issues at hand.
Unfortunately for you, again, Ms. Daly, I have a record of not being an ideologue, and I have had frontal disagreements with the leadership of the AFC, which by the way Ms. Daly, is not only permitted, but encouraged – can you say that about your party?
Further, I enjoy a healthy combative relationship with Mr. Khemraj (Prak) Ramjattan that began since my PYO days, and we have grown off of each other – which is how it should be. Mr. Ramjattan has always been forthright and brave in both word and deed, and many a night he rescued me and my ‘soldiers’ from dangerous situations during our PPP campaigns. He was one of the few senior leaders who took care of us on the ground, while others (higher up) slept comfortably. I therefore have no shame in my association with him, and at the same time, Ms. Daly, I reserve my right as an individual. Gerhard Ramsaroop
