Mr. Ali’s letter is fictitious and harmful
Dear Editor,
Please allow me a brief response to Mr. Mohamed Zamdin’s reply (Kaieteur News, June 24, 2009) under the caption “Mr. Rahaman’s allegations are not substantiated by facts”.
Mr. Zamdin said that he “read many opinion pieces and analyses from Mr. Bisram that were positive about Obama and his campaign.”
I challenge Mr. Zamdin to provide one positive article or op-ed piece by Mr. Vishnu Bisram that was published in the Caribbean New Yorker (CNY) prior to the Presidential election. I agree that the CNY has every right to support any candidate of its choice, however, something is awfully fishy when a newspaper that by and large supports Democratic candidates across the board, supports Hilary Clinton against Obama and then throws its support for a Republican candidate (McCain) against the Democratic candidate (Obama).
Mr. Zamdin also suggested that I owe “Muslims an apology for suggesting that Muslims automatically supported Obama because of some loyalty to him perhaps for his Muslim ancestry or Islamic middle name.” This is a false statement. Mr. Zamdin needs to re-read my letter again. Firstly, I never said such a thing. It was the CNY that published a letter from a certain Mr. Ali that claimed Muslims were obligated to vote for Obama because he is a Muslim and in my letter I challenged the letter by Mr. Ali as fictitious and harmful to the community (in Richmond Hill).
Secondly, nowhere in my original letter did I state that I surveyed anyone or that I was a pollster as Mr. Zamdin suggested in his reply to my letter. Heaven forbid, why I would want to intrude in Mr. Bisram’s area of expertise.
It is silly for Mr. Zamdin to suggest that because I do not live in the NY area, it is unlikely that I have access to the CNY.
For the record Mr. Zamdin, I read every edition of the CNY published last year and then some, and I stand by all the statements that I made about Mr. Bisram and the CNY.
