Schools’ basketball gets Beharry support
Edward B Beharry Company Limited continued its support for sport Saturday through its ‘Champion’ brand, when the company handed over a sponsorship cheque to the organisers of the National Schools’ Basketball tournament.

Area Manager of the Company, Harry Shewpaltan made the contribution in the presence of Street Solutions’, Rayad Boyce and Next Level Entertainment’s, Jamaal Douglas at their Charlotte and Wellington Street offices.
The National Sports Commission had teamed up with Street Solutions and Next Level to host the 2009 National Schools’ competition, which was launched a few weeks ago and promises to be one of the biggest in recent times.
“We support sports and youth because our youth is the next generation of Guyana and by contributing to them, we are keeping them away from negative things,” Shewpaltan said yesterday after handing over the cheque.
It is the second year that Beharry has offered sponsorship for the tournament and Boyce disclosed that Street Solutions had approached the Company “in keeping with a long-standing relationship” with the Group.
The tournament includes 37 teams in the Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 categories and among three areas: Georgetown, Linden and New Amsterdam. It is expected to bounce off next weekend at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
