Embattled Registrar of the Supreme Court, Evelyn Sita Ramlal, and former Major General in the Guyana Defence Force, Norman Mc Lean, returned to court before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, on Thursday.
Again the matter was deferred to another date.
Attorney at law Nigel Hughes, one of the lawyers representing the two defendants, said yesterday that there is definitely a clear attempt to keep Ramlal away from her work.
Hughes was readdressing a statement Police Prosecutor, Denise Griffith, who stated that the file has been sent to the DPP for legal advice, and that it has not been returned.
The prosecutor told the court that Administration of Justice Act (AJA) still cannot be applied to the matter because “no legal advice has been given.”
She said that the file was sent to the DPP for advice, but the prosecution is yet to get a response from the Director’s office.
The lawyer countered, that a matter of this nature should have already been given advice. Hughes further asked the magistrate for the matter to remain in her court.
The Registrar and Mc Lean were slapped with six charges stemming from forging an adoption order to conspiracy to commit a felony.
Since Ramlal’s appearance in the magistrate’s court, she has since been interdicted from duty, pending the determination of the matter.
