Shuttlecocks flew at the Eccles Primary School on Thursday last, as the Guyana Badminton Association (GBA) President and members introduced the game to the institution at the request of the Headmistress, Ms. Eileen Rogers and PTA President, Dr. Sivindra Mangru.
Demonstrations of the basic rules and on court play were done, along with some verbal explanations to the students. A release from the GBA noted, “It was very good to see the interest shown as the students turned out in numbers to witness the demonstrations.”
The Students were introduced to basic play including warm up exercises, serves, and movements on the court. The GBA plans to make regular visits to ensure the game is taken to a higher level at the School.
Shuttlecocks, net, rackets and DVDs on Badminton were also handed out to the school to help with the development of the game and continuous play.
The release stated that, “The GBA is happy to see the schools showing more interest in sports and intends to do much more programmes in schools as part of our ongoing Junior Drive.”
