The clash for the right to be crowned the best scrabble player in Guyana will take place this Saturday, at the Ocean View International Hotel, starting from 15:00 hrs.
Three-time and defending champion Frederick Collins puts his title on the line against the in-form Abigail McDonald for a first prize of $50,000 and a trophy, in addition to the right to represent Guyana at the World Championship later this year in Malaysia.
The two match words in a best of five showdown after they finished with the best records in the recently concluded three-round competition, played recently, at Malteenoes Sports Club and Bank of Guyana respectively.
The match-up is set to be an intriguing affair, since McDonald was among the few players to defeat Collins during the tournament and has an impressive record against the champion.
Collins on the other hand is a very experienced player and one who it is known to usually rise to the occasion. If one is to judge from his performance at the previous national tournament, discounting him might not be the wisest thing to do.
All in all, the pair seems well equipped and prepared to provide fans with a fascinating final showpiece that could eclipse the last tournament.
The presentation ceremony will follow shortly after the conclusion of competition.
