Aurora Masjid defeated Johanna Cecilia Masjid last Sunday, at the Anna Regina Ground, in the final of the Essequibo Zone of the West Indian Sports Complex Inter-Jamaat country-wide softball cricket tournament organised by the Guyana Softball League.
Johanna Cecilia Masjid won the toss and lost four wickets in four overs, with only 20 runs on the board.
However, an entertaining partnership between Munir Amin (21) and Vrzaad Khan (20) got them to 74-8 in 10 overs, extras the next best contributor with 17.
Anwar Baskh took 2-12 from 2 overs and was supported by Saif Ali (2-17) and Man-of-the-Match Timur Gafoor (2-21).
Aurora Masjid then knocked off the runs reaching 75-2 in 6.1 overs; Gafoor returning to score a blistering 47 which included 6 mighty sixes and a four.
Aurora Masjid have booked their place in the National final to be staged in Georgetown at a date to be announced.
The East Coast and Georgetown zones are scheduled to commence shortly.
