Traffic light begging must be stopped
Dear Editor,
Reading an article in the Guyana Chronicle dated Monday, May 18th 2009, captioned “Those traffic lights beggars” comes a warning.
I urgently urge Government officials and security forces to not allow this to happen in Guyana.
As stated in the report, one woman would get abusive if given $20.00 and one man started washing vehicle windscreens.
This must never be allowed to grow where it will get out of hand and out of control.
I have seen this first hand what had happened in Toronto Ontario Canada until Government stepped in to stop it dead in its tracks.
Had the Toronto police not stepped in and took control of the very situation now rising in Guyana some people were bound to get hurt or killed.
As your vehicle stopped young men would come and wash your windscreen even though you never asked for a wash.
They would then demand money for it until it got out of control with many fights.
Government had to step in and allowed the police to put this down immediately.
Please do not allow this to grow until it gets out of hand to become yet another plague like squatting, vending, noise nuisance and minibus culture.
I urge Government to put a full stop to this immediately.
