The Trophy Stall-sponsored Guyana Rugby Football Union organised 10-a-side Tournament opened last Saturday with a scorching contest between Yamaha Caribs and the Guyana Defence Force that ended in a 19-19 tie, at the National Park.
This photo shows the intense contest for possession between the two sides.
The favourites Caribs were made to fight for every point against a clearly more advanced and fit Army unit and in the end it was a fitting conclusion for a truly entertaining game that had supporters on both sides yearning for more.
On target for Caribs were West Indies Captain Claudius Butts, who went over the try-line twice, while Wayne Hutson scored the other. Former West Indies player Theodore Henry converted two times.
Cordell Carrington was the game’s most valuable Player scoring a brace of tries to go with a similar amount of conversions, while Avery Corbin flew over the try-line once.
The competition continues on Wednesday with Hornets tackling GDF, at the same venue.
