Rose Hall Town Windies Sports Bar (RHTWSB) booked a spot in the final of the Associated Business Services (ABS) 40 overs cricket tournament with a 6-run victory over arch rivals Port Mourant in their semi-final encounter at the Area ‘H’ ground at Rose Hall Town.
In a match reduced by 10 overs as a result of rain, the home team, batting first, lost Renwick Batson off the first ball of the innings, run out, but national players Assad Fudadin and Delbert Hicks combined to repair the early damage with a second wicket stand of 44 before Fudadin was caught on the midwicket boundary off Stephen Latcha for 25.
The Rose Hall unit was eventually bowled out for 178 in an allotted 30 overs. Hicks top- scored with 80 which included 9 fours and a six. Esuan Crandon chipped in with 27 and Khemraj Mahadeo 15.
The leading bowlers for Port Mourant were Latcha 2-16 and Rajendra Bolo 2-29.
Needing 179 to win, Port Mourant lost two quick wickets by the third over to find themselves 7-2. Devindra Thakurdeen was bowled by off spinner Troy Mathieson for 2 while Pooran Debidyal was caught behind by Hicks off the bowling of medium pacer Batson for 2.
A third wicket partnership of 55 between Moshin Perkhan and Navin Persaud brought Port Mourant back into the game before Persaud was brilliantly caught by Crandon off Mathieson for 17.
Captain Shameer Khan joined Perkhan and together they took the score to 90 in the 17th over when Perkhan was caught behind off Andre Percival. Hard hitting middle order batsman Lionel Seegobin joined his captain and added 34 in five overs before Khan was run out for a well played 21. It was 124-5.
Seegobin then took the attack to the home team, smashing 45 (4 sixes and 2 fours) before Crandon dislodged his stumps in the 28th over to leave Port Mourant at 157-6. RHTWSB bowlers held their nerves to eventually dismiss Port Mourant for 172.
The main wicket takers for the winners were Assad Fudadin 3-21 and Troy Mathieson 2-22.
