Dear Editor,
Ashford Jadu Rai Ambedkar says that claiming “Christians induce people of other faiths to become Christians is a fallacy and a lie.” (Guyana Chronicle May 4th)
Amazingly, that same day a story broke in the international press that American Christian soldiers were trying to convert people in Afghanistan to their religion. The soldiers had a stack of bibles in the local languages, Pashtu and Dari.
“It is our saviour Jesus Christ who commissioned us to go and preach the gospel to all nations; it is an act of obedience,” Ambedkar says. Actually, in many Muslim nations what Ambedkar is advocating is an illegal act. In Afghanistan for instance, a converted person can be sentenced to death for apostasy.
Undoubtedly, as part of the “commissioning” Ambedkar spoke about, a military chaplain was shown delivering a sermon to American soldiers on Al Jazeera TV, saying: “The special forces guys – they hunt men basically. We do the same things as Christians, we hunt people for Jesus. We do, we hunt them down.” Lutchman Gossai
