Address these concerns without delay

With the collapse of the Manganese Company at Matthew’s Ridge in Region One, the community of Port Kaituma had suffered from lack of employment opportunities, which made the community dreary and run down.
But with the advent of Barama Company, which set up business and opened roads and employs large numbers of persons from all walks of life, lots of different activities have began, including miners taking in equipment far into the interior, using the roads which have created more employment and more money circulation in the community.
Also foreign companies seek to invest in the areas. Port Kaituma today is a striving community with a number of hotels, groceries, discos, bakeries and other small industries.
But the Port Kaituma community is in a deplorable state of disrepair. There is no water flowing through the taps because the pump station is not working since the pump attendants have not been paid for quite sometime; there is no electricity because the power station is down for want of a small part, which officials from the region claim that is in Mabaruma.
The hospital, which was recently repaired, is leaking and the lone vehicle which the administration has, was used by an authorised driver during the Easter season for sporting and fun and is now damaged and parked for repairs.
These and other areas of concern need to be addressed urgently by the Regional Administration.
