ACCA tuition provider, Cacique Incorporated, hosted a successful blood drive yesterday, collecting a total of 100 units.
The entity had hoped to collect a total of 250 units, but was unable to reach the target.
Expressing his satisfaction with the turnout Vice Chairman of the company, Fazil Bacchus told Kaieteur News that “even though the entity would really have liked to reach the 250 target, I think that Cacique and the community as a whole have tried their best…but even if we contribute one pint of blood to the blood bank, that is marvelous to us.”
Bacchus explained that the reason why Cacique decided to get involved in entire blood collection process is largely due to the fact that a family member was hospitalized and needed blood.
“At that point in time, we realised that there was a dire need for blood so we got on board on this, and we are helping to save lives and that is what is important.”
Meanwhile, Coordinator of the blood drive for Cacique Inc, Susan Persaud expressed her appreciation to all the students of Cacique and the residents of Kitty who made voluntarily donations.
According to Persaud, the students and residents were thoroughly sensitized on the blood drive and as such, made a special effort to participate.
The blood drive was held at the company’s headquarters at lot 161 Pike and Alexander Streets, Kitty Georgetown.
Last year, the very organization also held a blood drive, where a total of 75 units were collected. As a result of this, the Ministry of Health awarded the organisation with a certificate and a trophy for being the entity collecting the highest number of units in a single donation.
The blood drive will now be an annual feature for Cacique. The company will be awarding the donors with a certificate of appreciation at a special award ceremony to be held later in the month.
This certificate will be signed by Health Minister, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy and Mr. Bacchus. (Fareeza Haniff)
