Planning for LinWest!!! GNYSA President, Richard Thompson (left) along with Executives (l–r) Compton Chester and John Newton arrive for a meeting at Olympic House yesterday.
Preparations for the ninth instalment of the LinWest Track and Field Games are moving apace despite threatening, intermittent weather that drenched part of the host venue, the Enmore Community Centre Ground earlier this week.
President of the Guyana New York Sports Association (GNYSA), Richard Thompson in a brief interview yesterday, told Kaieteur Sport that despite the threatening weather, the organising committee has no problems with the meet.
“Planning is very good. We have no problems with it [the meet] and things are in place. We hope that there is no more rain because the outfields of the ground has a little water but so far the meet is still on for Sunday,” Thompson said.
The LinWest Games usually attracts mass participation because of its attractive prizes but the event was previously restricted to Linden, West Demerara, East Bank and East Coast but West Berbice and East Berbice will debut this year.
“We are expecting good competition with the participation of new districts. Next year we hoping to add Georgetown and Essequibo for our 10th Anniversary, which will be held in Linden,” Thompson told this newspaper.
Another GNYSA Executive, Compton Chester, indicated that the idea behind the event is basically the proliferation of the sport. He said it is not intended to compete with any other but to add to a diverse athletics calendar. (Edison Jefford)
