Two employees of the Barama Company Limited were admitted to the Woodlands Hospital last evening, suffering from burns to their faces and other upper body parts.
The workers, a Malaysian and an Indonesian, were about to weld a fuel tank at the company’s operation at Number 70 KM when an explosion occurred.
This newspaper understands that the men had initially thought that the tank was dried of all fuel residue, and proceeded to carry out their work.
However, according to a source, this was not the case and the flammable liquid ignited when the men set their torches to the tank.
This newspaper was told that the explosion caused one of the men’s faces to turn completely black.
They were transported to Buck Hall, about two and a half hours drive from the location, and then transported by boat to Parika from where they were brought to the city.
They were immediately admitted and their conditions are listed as stable and according to hospital officials, they are both out of danger.
This newspaper tried unsuccessfully to obtain an official comment from company officials who had turned up at the hospital when the men arrived.
