Dear Editor,
I have achieved great knowledge over the years, be it from reading, movies, intellectuals etc. and as much as I have absolutely no concrete knowledge, but very basic information on the judiciary system like many others, I came to understand that any judge presiding over a case and is known to the accused, be it a personal friend, relative, family, working colleague or a business associate, it is expected that the presiding judge excuse him/herself from the bench because of the serious nature of conflict of interest.
I have no idea if this information is totally accurate or whether this system applies in Guyana, but the Bar Association would be welcome to elaborate on this.
From a source, I was informed that the assigned Judicial Manager and Commissioner of Insurance who has been appointed to head the investigation on the CLICO issue is known to some management personnel not only on a business level, but on a friendship basis.
I have no ill will nor am I questioning the integrity of the Commissioner of Insurance, but a statement for the record on the accuracy of such information should be made public via the media.
Should a commentary be forthcoming, it should be addressed to the general public. T. Pemberton
