At a time when the administrators are trying their best to get the fans back to cricket, Guyana opted to continue batting after lunch yesterday after going into the interval with their last pair at the crease in their 10th round WICB regional four-day cricket match against the Leeward Islands at Albion.
Dismissed five balls into the second session (which was delayed by 15 minutes due to the late arrival of the meals) Guyana eventually settled for a no-result and four points.
The match was called off with 9.1 of the mandatory 15 overs remaining when Runako Morton was removed by off-spinner Steven Jacobs for 87 with the Leeward Islands on 206-4 off 57.5 overs replying to Guyana’s 431.
Guyana resumed the final day on 254-5 and Assad Fudadin again batted well before he was leg before to leg-spinner Anthony Martin for 80 at 318-6.
Jacobs (5) was then leg before to Tonito Willette at 323-7 while Martin, who finished with 5-79 from 35.5 overs, got rid of Gajanand Singh (30), Veerasammy Permaul (0) and last man Brandon Bess (4) leaving Derwin Christian unbeaten on 11.
At lunch Guyana, were 336-9 and it was surprising that with the last pair at the crease the host did not declare.
On a flat track, the visitors reached 72 before Jacobs bowled Keiron Powell for 36 while Moncin Hodge edged part-time leg-spinner Sewnarine Chattergoon to the keeper after making 48 at 151-2.
Skipper Steve Liburd (1) was then taken at short leg off Permaul at 170-3 before Morton’s demise; caught at short mid-wicket off the improving off-spin of Jacobs, brought the game to a premature end at 17:01hrs.
Jacobs finished with 2-63 from 16.5 overs as Guyana slipped back into the cellar position after CCC’s outright win yesterday.
Both teams had to settle for four points from the rain ruined game in which the first two days were washed out and the visitors moved to 47 and Guyana, still without a win in their worst regional first-class season, moved to 24 points.
The Guyana squad will have their next practice session on Thursday from 09:30hrs in the City and after a break this weekend for the two ODIs at the Stadium travel, to Trinidad to face Trinidad and Tobago in their next match from March 27.
