Dear Editor,
I am in no position to say whether the planning committee of the Mash Secretariat should be replaced, but I am certain that many might agree that when you have early preparations for an event, it contributes towards smooth sailing.
I am now mapping out some personal suggestions which might be of some interest to the Mash Secretariat for some transformation for Mash 2010.
The Mash Theme competition should be made public as soon as possible and a decision made on the chosen one.
Creative minds from the entire academic arena throughout all 10 regions should also be invited along with the regular designers to create concepts via competition for both the floats and costumes. Of course, The Education Ministry will have a role to play and the adjudicators of the Theme, Floats and Costumes creations should only be from agencies under the tourism umbrella. That is, GTA, THAG, GEMS.
Concepts need not be extravagant like the ones in RIO.
Selected concepts are then forwarded to the business community well in advance for their consideration of full or partial sponsorship or participation. In doing so, it helps one to understand what their monies are spent towards and it also allows them to make provisions during the annual budget spending towards a national event.
There could also be a collaboration of two companies sharing/sponsoring a particular float or costumes. Geology and Mines in collaboration with Gold Board could also make their presence visible and donations/contributions coming from the mining community at large can make it possible for them.
Because of the present financial climate which I believe will have to run its course, it is my opinion that we stick to the 30 or a possible 40 float parade in 2010 with some improved creations. That is, until situations improve.
Would it not be a moment of glory to have Members of Parliament on that particular day forget about politics and come out and celebrate with the public as a unified nation?
They can all kill each other the day after.
I would actually work pro bono and undertake the task of assigning those MPs to designated floats.
Just imagine Commissioner of Police, Henry Greene leading off the Joint Services float parade along with some fluffy girls all reveling with excitement. Oh boy, the public will be in for an un-forgettable treat.
Commissioner, please don’t get me arrested for I am only trying to encourage your participation during Mash 2010, thus setting the tone for fellow government officials.
