The police assembled at the Turkeyen Station before the raid.
Early yesterday morning, members of the Guyana Police Force conducted raids in Sophia, where dozens of houses were searched and some 53 persons (51 men and two women) arrested pending enquires into various offences including murder, robbery under arms and simple larceny.
In addition, the police seized a motorcycle, three motor car wheels and two music speakers. According to the police, they believe that the items, which were seized in the raid, were either stolen, or obtained by unlawful means.
The operation was conducted between ‘A’ Field and ‘E’ Fields and involved a total of 71 houses.
