Elton Nicholson, 28, of 27 Central Rupununi was on Tuesday last granted $100,000 bail by Magistrate Allen Wilson for two counts of carnal knowledge of a female under 15 years of age.
It was alleged that between November 1, 2007 and December 1, 2007 Nicholson had carnal knowledge of a girl under 15 years of age.
A further charge states that the defendant between January 1 and July 31 last had carnal of the same female. He was not required to plead.
Attorney-at-law Leslie Sobers represented Nicholson.
The lawyer in a bail application said that his client is a well-known businessman in the community.
The accused is expected to make another court appearance on June 3.
Kaieteur News understands that the defendant, who is now 16 years old, has a three-month-old baby.
Also appearing before the same magistrate was a 14-year-old youth from Central Lethem who broke and entered a haberdashery store belonging to Ann Ramsarran on November 29 last and stole $160,000.
The teen was a student of Saint Ignatius Secondary School. Another charge accused him of breaking into the same store on December 3 last and stealing $187,000 and other items.
The teen was not required to plead to the charges since they were indictable, but he told the magistrate that he was guilty of the crimes.
The defendant was cautioned by the magistrate, but still continued to tell the court that he was guilty.
The magistrate then ordered that the teen be placed into the care of the New Opportunity Corps for two years.
The magistrate declared: “I will be sending you somewhere where you can be rehabilitated before you end up in the wrong path”.
The magistrate also ordered the child’s mother, who was present in court, to visit him regularly so he can feel wanted.
