Nicholas Allicock, 37, of Herstelling, East Bank Demerara, was yesterday charged with causing death by dangerous driving stemming from the death of Jai Sankar Gobind.
It is alleged that the defendant on February 23, last, at Agricola Public Road, East Bank Demerara, drove a hire car HA 8294 and killed Gobind.
He was allowed to plead due to the indictable charge.
According to the defendant who works as a taxi driver attached to ‘Innovations Concept’ located at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri, on the day in question was driving along the East Bank Public Road when the accident occurred.
He said he was told by his lawyer to come to court for this appearance, but his lawyer Euclin Gomes was not present at that time.
The magistrate remanded the accused to jail. He is scheduled to return to court on Thursday.
