The Berbice under-15 team open its quest for the Castrol Inter Country honours today when they face host Essequibo at the Anna Regina Community Centre ground.
The young Berbicians under Coach Andre Percival and Manager Julian Cambridge have been going through intense preparations for just over one month with the Berbice Board investing hundreds of thousands of dollars to ensure the team is fully prepared, mentally and physically.
According Board President Keith Foster, this year all efforts would be made to replicate this level of investment with all the County teams as it is their objective to dominate all levels of cricket at this level.
Preparation for the Inter Country tournament started mid January and the players were involved multiple trial matches.
For the first time ever, the BCBC also organised a very instructive session with parents of the cricketers to brief and discuss issues of importance to their sons relating to the tournament which included discipline, cultivating the right attitude and physical fitness.
The Board also organised a one-day Social Skills seminar which was conducted by former Guyana Diplomat and current Editor in Chief of the LRTVS CH10 Newscast Mr. Daniel DaCosta.
Role of a sport ambassador, public speaking and team unity were among the areas dealt with.
The Board presented each player in the eighteen man squad with an educational and a hygiene kit, while they also received a youth information booklet that covers 35 topics of interest to them.
Polo shirts were also presented to each player and the management staff. As a means of motivating the players, the Board has put up three trophies for the best batsman, bowler and best all rounder while the MVP of the tournament for Berbice will be rewarded with one bicycle and $20,000 worth of educational materials.
