Elderly doctor questioned about alleged rape of maid

Police are investigating allegations that a 65-year-old physician drugged and sexually assaulted his maid.
The 65-year-old doctor, who has a private clinic at Berbice, was detained on Friday at the Rose Hall Police Outpost, but has since been released on station bail.
Kaieteur News understands that he was also detained in January, when the incident is said to have occurred.
According to a source, he was released after presenting a document which indicated that the victim wanted no further action.
It is alleged that in January the 38-year-old woman went to the doctor’s clinic to seek employment after learning that he had advertised for a maid.
She claimed that during the interview the physician managed to drug her. However, the alleged victim said that she did not lose consciousness and was aware of being sexually assaulted by the doctor.
A police official confirmed that the woman underwent a medical examination, but declined to say whether the results supported the allegation.
