Bartica FA acknowledges poor 2008
Cites lack of facilities as major challenge
At a special meeting to evaluate its performance during 2008 and to establish a plan for this year, the General Council of the Bartica Football Association (BFA) has acknowledged that the year was a very disappointing one.
The gathering also sought to identify the challenges facing the sport in the Gold Mining Town.
Among the challenges the BFA General Council identified was the unavailability of adequate playing facilities, rehabilitation works to the only available ground and the lengthy rain season experienced during the year.
The only available facility that is in a state of readiness to play is the Bartica Community Centre ground which is utilised for all other major activities including cricket.
In an effort to revive the sport, the gathering agreed to launch the BFA 2009 season with an Inter-Block competition that would include teams from North, Central, South, Potaro Road and Riverain zones.
Action will kick off on Sunday February 15 and is being geared to coincide with Mashramani activities. This competition will also serve as the launching pad for the long awaited return of club tournaments leading up to Regatta 2009.
Coordinators in the various zone are; Alden Marslowe (North), Charles Jones (Central), Christopher George (South), Roland Persaud (Potaro Road), Kenneth Edwards (Riverain).
Among other plans tabled at the meeting were proposals for a coaching clinic which will be facilitated by two national coaches, the revival of female football and a club leaders seminar aimed at strengthening the leadership structures of clubs.
The meeting was attended by representatives from four of the five affiliated clubs, and one female team.
