A 33-year-old miner was stabbed to death on Friday by a man whom he had accused of stealing his pants.
Dennis Patterson, of Perseverance, Essequibo Coast, succumbed to several stab wounds at around 11:00 hours on Friday at a place called Black Water in Guyana’s interior.
His body, along with the suspect, was brought to Bartica yesterday afternoon.
Details of the incident are a bit sketchy, but according to Patterson’s reputed wife, Rosemary Melbourne, the suspect, who is said to be a drug addict, had attacked Patterson from behind with a knife.
The woman said she was told that, following an early argument during which Patterson accused the man of stealing a pair of trousers, the suspect went away and returned with a knife.
Melbourne said that from reports she received, Patterson was sitting on a bench when the suspect attacked him unexpectedly.
Before Patterson could defend himself, he was already stabbed several times about his body, and he collapsed in a pool of blood.
Several persons who were at the shop responded and subdued the suspect, but by then he had already inflicted the fatal wounds.
