Dear Editor,
I am very perturbed with NCN’s level of competence. I can prove that the entity is still miles ahead of the rest in terms of presenters, but this is not exemption to perform just a little better.
Moreso, NCN has the only radio station, so it means that standards must be very high. I hope to get some kind of response, as well as bring about the necessary corrections.
First, one has to be ‘suitably’ qualified, not ‘suitable.’ This one is very irksome.
And ‘quality and satisfaction count’ not ‘counts.’ Work must be done with the morning host on VOG, for ‘there “is” no announcement of any death and message.’ It cannot be “are”, and “any” cannot be followed by the plural object or subject. Do people write or say, ‘any boys’ etc. also, Mr. Host, ‘children’ must be followed with the verb that agrees with the plural number. People do not speak or write of children ‘is.’
I know that work is needed when I keep reading ‘comprising of’ in the piece about the Neil and Massy Group of Companies. Last week “Rice Rap” was riddled with errors, but the one that stood out is “whom and whomever” acting as the subject of sentences. To me, this should never be.
I have a final quarrel with the infomercial from the Ministry of Health. This piece is read by Dr. Rovin Deodat. There is the request to buy… ‘Chlorosol,” available in shops, that is made for this… Is it that these shops “is” made for this (relating to the information about Chlorosol)? And how come the verb does not agree with the subject?
Please check out this construction. It is very faulty, and smacks of all the errors common to and characteristic of bad English. I suggest, it be redone. Shane Rizwan
