A suspected newspaper thief was given his pretrial liberty in the sum of $25,000 after he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.
Rickford Blair, 43, of 1980 Nutmeg Street, Festival City, South Ruimveldt, allegedly stole 232 copies of the daily Chronicle newspapers, valued at $13,920. He pleaded not guilty.
According to his lawyer, Mohamed Zafar, his client had being working with that media entity for the past 26 years. He therefore asked that bail be granted in a reasonable sum.
The accused is expected to make his next court appearance on February 27.
