General Manager of the Transport and Harbour Department, Karen Bowen, and Maritime Director, Ivor English, were both sacked yesterday with immediate effect.
Kaieteur News was told that Minister Robeson Benn dismissed the two at about 16:00 hrs as a result of some $40M that was expended on the T&HD sports club, Thomas Lands.
The sports club was declared unsafe by the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) some time ago and rehabilitation works are currently ongoing.
This newspaper has learnt also that there is also some controversy with monies that were reportedly not deposited into an account.
When Kaieteur News contacted Minister Benn last evening he offered ‘no comments’ on the issue.
